Employment in California

Fueled by booming manufacturing, tech, entertainment, agricultural, and transportation industries, California’s economy is the fifth largest in the world. And yet, the state has the highest poverty rate in the nation at 19%, with people of color disproportionately represented. We see a similar discrepancy in the labor market – the historically tight labor market has made it difficult for employers to fill their entry-level roles; at the same time, employment remains out of reach for many, particularly people of color. These factors present a unique forcing mechanism for California employers to rewire their talent systems and create more opportunities and supports for low-wage workers, while addressing employers’ talent pain points.

California Rewire Lab

In partnership with the James Irvine Foundation, Talent Rewire invites California employers to participate in a 12-month Rewire Lab that will build capacity and reduce barriers for the state’s approximately five million low-wage workers so they can be employed, retained and advanced; and to provide greater economic opportunity for their diverse employees, while addressing a business need.

If you’re a Human Resources, Corporate Social Responsibility, or Operations leader at your company looking for innovative and evidence-based ways to access and retain new pools of talent, the California Rewire Lab is for you!  This year-long experience launching in March 2020 is a low-cost, low-risk opportunity that will inspire and support you to get the results you need to address your most pressing talent issues.
